I’m admittedly quite an amateur and don’t have the best understanding of the fediverse; I have a Mastodon account and a Misskey account, and was planning on making a Pleroma account as well. However, it seems like they’re all connected; was it redundant to join Mastodon and Misskey? And in that case, should I not make a Pleroma? Or is there any benefit to having one of each?

Due to some let’s say petty ideological disagreements, a lot of Pleroma servers are blocked by Mastodon servers, so depending on who you want to communicate with a separate Pleroma account might be needed.

Is there anywhere I can find out more info on the Mastodon - Pleroma schism? This is the first I’m hearing of it.

Technically there is no schism, but people on many Mastodon servers are a bit trigger happy with instance bans when those instances federate with other instances that are deemed ban worthy. And Pleroma instance operators typically are not so trigger happy and thus even if their instance is well moderated they get banned for not banning others preemptively.

That said, some of the instances in question really do deserve to be defederated, so both sides have some reasonable arguments…

some instances also block pleroma instances that use soapbox fe. their reason is because the dev is terf so users must also be terf

It’s up to you. They are all connected, but you could still have 3 accounts. You could even have 4 ;)

some different features, but well, it’s all pretty similar (all for microblogging). I hate managing different accounts so I just use one. just use what you like the most. you can follow everyone still.
